A heatpump, an electric cooling and heating device that compresses and then decompresses natural gas, is used to heat or cool a building. This mechanical device transfers heat from a cooler area to a warmer place and can also extract heat form air, water, or the Earth. Heat pumps functions like an air conditioner in the summer and an electric furnace in the winter, thus encompassing both a heating and cooling unit in one device.
