INTRODUCTION

Tulsi Manas Mandir Temple, also known as Tulsi Birla Manas Mandir, is one of Varanasi’s most prominent temples. It’s in Varanasi’s Durgakund neighbourhood, adjacent to the Durga Temple. It was built in 1964 from white marble and looks extremely good with a lovely garden. The temple was built by the Banaras family and is dedicated to Lord Rama. Beautiful images of Ram, Sita, Lakshman, and Hanuman can be found at the temple.

It has become the center of Kashi’s tourism attraction. The temple is said to be built on the site of the famous and magnificent Indian epic Ramcharitamanasa, which was written by the saint Goswami Tulsidas. Various scenes from the Ramcharitamanasa are depicted on the temple’s wall.

HISTORY & SIGNIFICANCE

In Varanasi, the Tulsi Manas Mandir Temple is both historically and culturally significant. At this location near Kashi, Goswami Tulsidas wrote the ancient Hindu epic Ramcharitamanasa. In this Epic, he chronicled the life of Lord Rama and quickly gained enormous fame. Lord Rama was a magnificent king who always led by example in front of his subjects. Tulsi Manas Mandir Temple was built at that location many years later. The Hindu god Lord Rama is described as King Rama in the Ramcharitamanasa.

ARCHITECTURAL DETAILS

Shri Tulsi Manas Mandir Haridwar is written on the temple’s main gate. There is an attractive Tulsi Garden on the right side of the entrance gate, which offers a very tranquil and clean setting. Tulsidas’ statue in the Tulsi Garden depicts the line “Tulsi Das Chandan ragane, tilak det Raghuvir.” A magnificent pond with four Ghats may be found on the left side of the main temple.

There are numerous statues on each bank of the temple, each representing a different subject from the Hindu Epics. The pond’s northern Ghat features a statue of Shri Kakbhushundi Ji, while the southern bank features Shri Yagywalkaji Maharaj, the eastern ghat features Shri Ashutosh Shankar (Lord Shiva), and the western bank features Goswami Tulsidas Ji. The Ram Darbar in the temple’s center houses Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati. The temple houses a statue of all the Gods and Goddesses mentioned in the Hindu epic. The temple’s wall is adorned with a variety of Chaupayees, Dohas, Chhandas, and Sorathas.

The temple’s second floor features statues and scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, two classic Hindu epics. The temple is named after Tulsidas, a renowned saint from the 16th century.
